Welcome to our ICBRKR Extraordinaires Series, where every two weeks, we highlight one extraordinary ICBRKR. Our community is our backbone, and we’re proud to be BRKing the mold with such a passionate and engaging group of people. ⚡️
This week, we introduce you to Art Aficionado, Music Lover and Urban Explorer, Isabella Broden. Creator of Oramai, a luxurious, environmentally-conscious fashion brand launched in 2018, Isabella is fierce in her mission to reduce waste without compromising on style. Listen and learn in our interview below, and connect with Isabella in the ICBRKR app!
Hi Isabella! Can you please tell us more about what you do? Why did you start your own resort wear?
I founded Oramai in 2017, after many years working as a Graphic Designer and Art Director for various fashion magazines such as L'Officiel, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and later in-house for different luxury brands. I got to know that fashion is the second biggest polluter in the world, after the oil industry, and I was surprised about the low environmental focus that was practiced within the luxury sector.
I wanted to recreate luxury so that the customer should expect it to be made in the most environmentally aware way possible. That kind of transparency should be the future. The collection is made with 100% linen, grown sustainably in Belgium and hand-stitched by local, skilled craftsmanship in London.
We are a sustainable semi-couture as we only produce on-demand to minimize overproduction and waste. The brand reflects a slower pace and process, where things are made with care and detail, where craftsmanship is more important than trend, where there is a purpose to every piece.
My commitment is to make an elegant and relaxed collection without compromising ethics and key values, taking into consideration where materials come from and who is making them. This is luxury with a conscience or in other words, sustainable luxury.
What an important mission and accomplishment! We also hear you’re a big community builder, and host a Women’s Circle at your house. What inspired you to create this circle?
I believe in community. I think it’s important for people in today’s hectic life to stop for a moment and start to think outside their comfort zone and share these thoughts with others. We are not alone, and we shouldn’t be. Shared experiences are happier :)
Truth! As a Music Lover and Urban Explorer, what are your favorite song and favorite place in the world?
‘Lullaby - Original’ by Hraach, on the album Summer Sol, and Buenos Aires. I love the vibe and the art scene there.
What do you love most about ICBRKR?
I love the community aspect of ICBRKR and to connect with like-minded people, because it’s all about getting inspired and people do inspire.
And last but not least, what is your guilty pleasure?
Aperitivo, no day is complete without a good aperitivo. Think hummus, dip, some cut cucumber, carrots, cheese and enjoy it with some Italian red wine... Preferably looking out over the ocean…
Mmmm, we can just hear the waves crashing! Thanks for sharing your inspiring mission with us, Isabella. We’re 100% on board and look forward to sharing some wine and cheese with you on a beach sometime soon!
