ICBRKR EXTRAORDINAIRES: Meet Sara Herandi, Modern Ayurvedic Guide

Welcome to our ICBRKR Extraordinaires Series, where we periodically highlight one extraordinary ICBRKR. Our community is our backbone, and we’re proud to bring together such a passionate and engaging group of people. ICBRKR: MEET YOUR GLOBAL COMMUNITY. ⚡️

Today, we introduce you to Wellness Advocate, Fellow Foodie, and Global Explorer, Sara Herandi. A very personal experience led her to discover the ancient science of Ayurveda, and she set out to share its benefits in an easy, more modern way by founding Deja, an Ayurvedic wellness brand. Read on to find out how Ayurveda helped Sara overcome her own health issues and learn more about its principles, such as encouraging balance over perfection, prevention over cure, natural over synthetic, and root cause over symptoms.

We’re also hosting Sara on ICBRKR’s IG Live this Wednesday, February 10th to discuss the below and more. Join us at 7PM London | 2PM New York | 11AM LA.

Sara, we love that you’re bringing Ayurveda to a wider population! Can you tell us more about your company and what you do?

I’m the founder of Deja – a new wellness brand rooted in Ayurveda, the world’s oldest healing system. We have just launched our first all-natural supplement: Deja Mind Balance. These capsules combine 11 Ayurvedic herbs, including adaptogens and nootropics with calm-promoting properties that help the mind deal with stress, boost focus, and re-establish clarity. Our ingredients are backed by 5000 years of wisdom and modern-day science.

Sounds like something we all need right now! What inspired you to start?

After I was diagnosed with lymphoma when I was nineteen, I had to take so many strong drugs that I became obsessed with taking back control of my health using a more natural and holistic approach. That’s how I discovered Ayurveda; its principles helped me so much on a mental and physical level, from supporting the side-effects of chemotherapy to building my long-term strength back up. But I realised that despite the many benefits of Ayurveda, it can seem mysterious and complicated at first, and I couldn’t find a brand that made it simple to fit it into modern day life. That’s what inspired me to create Deja. I followed my passion and partnered with a family of Ayurvedic doctors to help spread the benefits of this ancient science.

Wow, what a tough journey. Can you tell us more about Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is an ancient system for living well. It takes a holistic approach to help bring our physical and mental selves back into balance. It’s the sister science of yoga and is thousands of years old. Much of it is rooted in natural ingredients and methods, like herbal remedies (turmeric, ashwagandha, etc.), eating the right foods for your body type, mindfulness and meditation. It’s all about striving for balance rather than perfection, treating the mind and body as a whole, and taking a preventative approach to your health. Elements of it can be easily and flexibly introduced into your lifestyle to promote better overall health and wellbeing.

Do you have a second occupation, or something else you’re passionate about?

Not an occupation but I love yoga and cooking. Yoga really helps me destress and I love practicing the more challenging poses and slowly seeing improvement. I also love cooking and trying out new recipes, especially getting a bit creative and trying to make healthier versions of my favourite dishes.

What do you like most about ICBRKR?

I think that now more than ever, community is so important. With ICBRKR bringing people together online at the moment, it’s a great way to be able to connect with like-minded people across the world.

As a Global Explorer, what is your favorite city and why?

So hard to choose – I love London for the people, LA for the weather, Paris for the art and architecture, Mexico City for the vibe…

How about your favorite food?

Persian food. I love Casa Cruz and, for cooking at home, Notting Hill Fish Shop.

Finally, what is your guilty pleasure?

Dark chocolate – every day at the moment!

Love it. Thanks for shedding light on Ayurveda and sharing your journey with us, Sara. See you on IG Live this Wednesday!
