ICBRKR EXTRAORDINAIRES: Meet Spirit Sisters, Brandi Howe & Chloe Holmes
Welcome to our ICBRKR Extraordinaires Series, where every two weeks, we highlight one extraordinary ICBRKR. Our community is our backbone, and we’re proud to be BRKing the mold with such a passionate and engaging group of people. ⚡️
Today, we introduce a pair of extraordinaires as part of our continued Art Basel Series: Brandi Howe and Chloe Holmes of Spirit Sisters. Together, these stunning Art Aficionados, Music Lovers and Urban Explorers push the envelope in the world of photography, art, fashion, and more. We are honored to have them on the docket at our PARTY LIKE YOU MEAN IT WITH ALL YOUR FRIENDS event at Art Basel Miami. Get to know them below, and purchase your tickets soon to ensure you catch them at the ICBRKR Beach Club!
Spirit Sisters, we implore you! Tell us what you do and how you came up with this fun interactive art concept?
It all starting when we spontaneously moved into a loft. We were at lunch, chatting about how we needed a change. We looked across the street and saw a few lofts for rent; within 2 hours, our prayers had been answered with a dream loft, and a signed lease. Two weeks later, as we moved in, we decided to give our loft a 70’s theme and from then on, it became our creative space and playground.
Over time, Spirit Sisters has become our platform for artistic expression. Our emphasis is mostly in fashion/art photography, costume & clothing design, artistic direction, and event installations. We love to bring a feminine and surreal aesthetic to our work, combining fantasy with a futuristic vision.
There’s no time like the present! What inspires you to produce such a rich and varied body of work?
Our inspirations are to keep growing and evolving with our creations. We started Spirit Sisters when we were both in our early twenties and it’s exciting to see the growth we’ve had just in the past few years. We love putting ourselves and our models in situations that strike the viewer with emotions they wouldn’t normally feel. As we continue to grow as artists, I think we are being pulled more towards live installations, but we shall see where the creative wind takes us.
Can you describe your latest installation, which we can’t wait to see at Art Basel this year?
Our “Fishbowl” theme for our next installation is a humorous take on our increasing addiction to a digitalized world. Most of our free time is spent online surfing social media where our actions within apps seem almost second nature. With time, our attention span has diminished faulting lack of interesting and purpose-driven content. Numerous studies have been released recently likening our modern attention span to that of a goldfish, and alas in that comparison our theme was born.
We both feel that with this installation, and bringing our faults to light, we can choose our social media preferences with purpose. This allows the user to feel as though logging in, making content, and building connections is something to look forward too, not a chore.
What would you say is your favorite way to wow people?
We love dressing up and becoming our own original characters! Spirit Sisters are known for crazy outfits that often are (to the average person) very over-the-top. We think of our costumes as the invention of an individual, and with Brandi’s background in fashion and Chloe's in photography, dressing up and taking photos would be our best quality in “wow-ing” our guests.
What is your favorite thing about ICBRKR?
We love ICBRKR because it allows the user to connect on a more personal level. It’s hard to find content on social media apps that creates a community. The opportunity to have a community that brings like-minded people together with the purpose of building mutually beneficial relationships is a game changer in this modern age. We love to travel and experience all the world has to offer; it’s one of our favorite pastimes. But the world is a big place and it’s hard to make connections in a country that is foreign to you and your work. ICBRKR helps us find new friends and circles that can help elevate our creative potential worldwide.
Yessss! And to conclude, what are you guilty pleasures?
Many of our outfits and costumes have been inspired and manufactured out of items from our local Home Depot :) We also love buying cheap plane tickets to random destinations just for the sake of adventure.
Art Aficionados and Urban Explorers, indeed! Thanks for answering our questions, ladies. We’re so excited to see what you have planned for us at Art Basel!
