Dr. Swart, we’re so impressed at how you’ve managed to be both a certified medical doctor and a best-selling author. Can you tell us more about what you do and you got here?
Thank you! I'm a medical doctor, neuroscientist, global advisor to executives in financial services, Professor at MIT Sloan, and yes, now the best selling author of The Source. There have been many challenges and a lot of hard work! Throughout the journey there were times when my self-belief suffered, but I believe you make your own luck so I always found a way to bounce back. And I wasn’t afraid to ask for help. Understanding the science behind abundance, manifestation, visualisation, and consistently making vision boards changed my life. And that is what I finally wrote about.
Amazing. What inspired you to become who you are?
The realisation that I did not have to conform and that I could be anything I wanted to be. Trusting my intuition and believing in my creative ability to create the outcomes I really wanted in life, was a game changer for me.
And what would you say drives you the most?
Sharing my knowledge to transform the way people experience life. I have seen that things can be so much better if we take charge of our brain and its incredible power, and I really want people to see this for themselves. I feel extremely lucky that neuroscience is a subject so many people are interested in, as it has been my passion for a very long time.
Speaking of people and common interests… What do you like most about ICBRKR?
To me, ICBRKR is a tribe, and from a neuroscience point of view, our sense of belonging is the single most important factor in brain health and well-being. The opportunity to connect to people and share their varied experiences of life is exciting because it's mind expanding.
Yes!!! We’re ALL about that! As an Urban Explorer, what is your favorite city, and why?
Cape Town is my favourite city in the world. It has stunning natural beauty, an evolving vibe socially from its complicated history, and access to great food, wine, surf and safari. It’s also buzzing with diverse languages and cultures which I love. You can be super adventurous or totally chilled. I never get bored there.
Now, a rite of passage: what is your guilty pleasure?
Diamonds. On the surface they are a total luxury and historically have held dangerous connotations. But they are a connection to the earth, the past, the wonder of science and nature, rarity and uniqueness.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us, Tara! We can’t wait to hear more at ICBRKR’s Post-Work Conversations this month.
